A Field Club visit to Caerlaverock WWT reserve
March 1st 2014
17 members and 6 guests gathered in Abbey Road at 8am for a coach trip to Caerlaverock, Dumfries to enjoy a pleasant, dry and mainly sonny day at the WWT coastal reserve on the north shore of the Solway. Many of us commented on the wonderful quality of the light, which was ideal for photography and binocular viewing. Shortly after the visit 2 of our guests joined the Field Club.
Although the main attraction at the reserve is birds, some interesting botany was also done during the day, despite a dearth of flowering plants. In particular 4 fern species were recorded including a patch of Soft Shield fern (Polystichum setiferum).
